I’ve just started to record my mpg figures. I’ve been curious because I’m tossing around the idea of getting a smaller car. I’m actually not using the car a great deal these days, and really just use it for visiting family and shopping. Other than that I jump on my creaky old bike.
The figures look ok, actually. I drive a 2 litre alfa, so was expecting something awful, but it would seem I’m getting nearly 37mpg. That’s my first reading. I think it’ll be far more interesting to see my quarterly or annual average.
It occurs to me though – if I get another car, someone else will have my alfa, and I’m sure that they wouldn’t be able to get that sort of mpg out of it. Would I feel guilty knowing that my old car was chucking out more emissions because I wasn’t driving it?
